Everyone remembers their childhood nightlight, that small beacon of light protecting the bathroom from monsters and dragons. At Georgetown Development we want our families to feel protected and safe in their homes from any creatures that go bump in the night, which is why we really like the newest bath fan from NuTone.

The LunAura bath fan features an LED nightlight that encompasses the bath fan to produce a soothing soft blue light that provides enough lumination during the night while maintaining a calming atmosphere for sleepy homeowners. NuTone is known for their eco-friendly and stylish bath fans and the LunAura is no exception. The 100-cfm fan includes a main light that’s 36-watts, is available with a round, square or diamond light panel, is Energy Star-Rated and operates at just 0.7 sones, which just louder than a whisper.

NuTone has a long line of bath fans to fit any bathroom design. The LunAura brings a modern look to any custom bathroom renovation or new design. It’s hard to believe that 2010 is over already. With all the ups and downs of the housing market, no one can predict what 2011 will bring but at Georgetown Development, we can tell you one trend that isn’t going away anytime soon in Bethesda; a sustainable, smart home. Green building is here and it’s here to stay. Builders across the country are working smarter to provide homeowners with a home that not only stands out, but is designed to get the most out of natural light and utilizes recycled and sustainable products wherever they can.

That being said, there are a number of products and finishing touches that homeowners will be seeing more of and we can’t wait to show you what’s next when we attend the annual Builder’s Show in Orlando next month. But, until then, take a look at some of the top trends that Builder Magazine is predicting for 2011. From CLF lighting to unique and original fixtures for your bathroom and home exterior, 2011 will be anything but ordinary!

Typically trade shows are a mad house. Everyone is rushing from booth to booth to see what’s new, what’s on trend, what the next big thing is. This year’s American Institute of Architects (AIA) convention last month in Miami wasn’t really any different. While the number of attendees might have been smaller, the abundance of new products made up for it.

From sleek solar panels to decorative windows made from bamboo, this annual green conference displayed products for everyone. Click here to view some of the highlights.

Georgetown Development has worked on increasingly green homes throughout the Washington, DC metro area and would love to help you with your next green project. From one room renovations to custom home designs, Georgetown Development has been helping homeowners create their dream spaces for over ten years.

From light bulbs to flooring, homeowners today have the choice to toss aside less environmentally friendly products and appliances and purchase items that are either ENERGY STAR® or energy-efficient. Let’s face it people, green design is here to stay and Georgetown Development couldn’t be more excited about it!

We have been designing green homes all over the Washington, DC metro area for years and when we came across this article about green roofing and saw that DC was the number two city in the U.S. for square footage of green roofing installing in 2009, we couldn’t be happier.

Green roofing or sod, consists of several layers of protected membranes and soil medium, and planted with any type of vegetation, including succulents, grasses, and other plants. It offers sound insulation for the building, promotes energy efficiency, and is said to help keep the interior of a house or building cooler.

But in addition to the benefits for the building, green roof proponents say the installations help society as a whole. It cleans the air, takes the stress off sewer systems through storm water retention, and helps reduce the heat island effect that makes urban temperatures climb in the summer.
