It’s been a tough few years for the housing market, not only in the Washington, D.C. metro area but all over the country. Even with unemployment numbers going down and the economy slowly rebounding, home sales have been struggling to bounce back.

Georgetown Development naturally stays on top of forecasting and trends not only in D.C. but across the county and one of our go-to studies is the Builder Healthy Markets Index created by Builder magazine. Taking a number of economic factors into consideration, Builder has recently released their Healthy Market Index and, no surprise, D.C. ranked #11 as one of the healthiest real estate markets in the county.

According to Builder, strong job growth is the big story in the nation's capital. Non-farm employment rose 1.4% last year, with most jobs in the service sector. The unemployment rate (5.7% in December) is the lowest of any major metro area in the country.

This being said, perhaps it’s time to take those custom home plans off the shelf and make it happen! From inception to budgeting to putting in those final touches, Georgetown Development will be there every step of the way in order to ensure the home you’ve always dreamed of.

For many homeowners in the Washington DC metro area, green design is a hot topic and many of our customers are looking to use products that combine green materials with design.

Today’s market is full of options when it comes to eco-friendly natural wood, so when we came across this new flooring from We Cork, we were excited to incorporate this material into our next custom home. We Cork’s Eco-Nomical series is a premium glueless floating floor, made with recycled wine stoppers. Like other cork flooring, it’s durable, sound absorbing and most importantly, comfortable under foot. Availble in four colors, We Cork’s Eco-Nomical series is easy to install and adds a sustainable element to any home

There you are, driving down the street in Bethesda, MD or McLean, VA and you see one home that just looks a little out of place, something is different, but you can’t quite put your finger on what it is. What makes that home look different? Solar panels on the roof!

More and more homes today are having solar panels installed and the government is finally taking notice. The growing demand for solar panels on residential homes has forced Congress to look into a climate legislation that includes a provision that, if passed, could make it financially more feasible for solar system suppliers and their business partners—including builders—to extend lower-cost leasing options to homeowners. Click here to read all about it.

At Georgetown Development, we are committed to providing our clients with the latest in sustainable home design.
