It’s been a tough few years for the housing market, not only in the Washington, D.C. metro area but all over the country. Even with unemployment numbers going down and the economy slowly rebounding, home sales have been struggling to bounce back.

Georgetown Development naturally stays on top of forecasting and trends not only in D.C. but across the county and one of our go-to studies is the Builder Healthy Markets Index created by Builder magazine. Taking a number of economic factors into consideration, Builder has recently released their Healthy Market Index and, no surprise, D.C. ranked #11 as one of the healthiest real estate markets in the county.

According to Builder, strong job growth is the big story in the nation's capital. Non-farm employment rose 1.4% last year, with most jobs in the service sector. The unemployment rate (5.7% in December) is the lowest of any major metro area in the country.

This being said, perhaps it’s time to take those custom home plans off the shelf and make it happen! From inception to budgeting to putting in those final touches, Georgetown Development will be there every step of the way in order to ensure the home you’ve always dreamed of.

Many of us envision the perfect morning, walking downstairs and opening the windows to let the sun shine in. Rarely does this happen, but at Georgetown Development, we aim to please! For all of those craving their Snow White moment, we would like to present the Push Out French Casement window from Marvin.

The Push Out French Casement windows is the newest addition to the company’s Ultimate Casement line. The window has traditional push-out hardware that opens with a quarter turn of a handle and features the company’s clever wash mode that allows exterior glass to be washed from the inside. Rather than the typical middle support, the two sashes join at the stiles within a single frame, like a French door, resulting in unobstructed views. The aluminum-clad window has a Kynar 500 finish and can be made in a 72-inch-by-72-inch size.

The push out window can drastically change the look and feel of any home exterior adding a level of luxury from the outside. To learn more about how Georgetown Development can help you incorporate these windows into your next custom home design or room to room renovation, please visit www.georgetowndevcorp.com.

It’s hard to believe that 2010 is over already. Cooktop on Steroids!

Everyone has their favorite room in a home. For some, it’s the living room, for some the bathroom and for many, especially in the DC Metro area, it’s the kitchen. At Georgetown Development, we’re always looking at new and innovative ways to update kitchens of any size so we’re always full of ideas when our clients ask us “what would you do with this space?”

One item we love that is guaranteed to knock the socks off of any foodie in your home is this electric drop-in induction cooktop from Electrolux. The cooktop’s Infinite cooking system creates heat only after sensing a pan on the surface. Not only that, but the surface responds only to the diameter of the pot or pan that’s been placed on the cooktop. Other features include Power-Assist, which provides a 25 percent increase in power to bring large pots to boil faster, and 15 preset touch settings for digital heat control.

We love Electrolux’s sleek design and at Georgetown Development, we can help you deisgn your new custom kitchen around this innovative product or any other product you’ve got your eye on this holiday season.

As 2011 slowly creeps up on us, we know you’re all starting to make your New Year’s resolutions.  While we know many of you will resolve to live better by eating better or getting more exercise, some of us will make the ultimate resolution to try to live a greener lifestyle, staring with the products in our home.

Many of the custom homes and renovation projects that we work on revolve around creating a greener home by utilizing sustainable products and including the latest in green design in each room. One of the products that Georgetown Development recently came across that is destined to become a must have for any green home is The Solon compost system by Blanco. This state-of-the-art compost system allows homeowners to seamlessly store organic waste for composting in the kitchen. The recycled stainless steel container installs into the countertop and includes a sealed lid to contain odors. The system is available as a drop-in design or a flush option for stone tops, making the design not only a functional addition to any new kitchen, but an attractive one.

At Georgetown Development, we are committed to helping homeowners achive the green home deisgn they’ve always envisioned. Innovative Entryways

We all know the quote “good fences make great neighbors.” At Georgetown Development, we think good fences can make for amazing custom homes. A home with an artfully designed entryway can turn a home into an experience.

As small lots have become prime real estate for many home owners today in many desirable neighborhoods throughout the Washington, DC metro area, thoughtful landscaping has become essential to these home sites' appeal. One of the best ways to accent and define the transitional space between public sidewalk and private entry is with a unique fence or gate.

Take a look at some of these innovative entryways from Builder magazine and to learn more about how Georgetown Development can help you custom design the exterior of your home, please visit us at www.georgetowndevcorp.com
